Gods Demand Sacrifices

Gods traditionally demand sacrifices. When your god is a gun, those sacrifices become brutal.

When a society elevates the firearm to its highest idol, the offerings are not symbolic. They are bloody, immediate, and indiscriminate. Today’s high profile shooting is not an isolated act of violence. It is an inevitable outcome of a culture that sanctifies the gun as savior while ignoring that this god takes life without discretion, without loyalty, and without mercy.

We are told the gun is a shield against tyranny, a guarantor of liberty, a tool of protection. In practice, it delivers chaos, suicide, domestic carnage, and mass public bloodshed — far more often than it delivers anything resembling freedom. And now, even one of the most devoted apostles of this faith, a man who glorified the gun as the cornerstone of American identity, has found himself on the receiving end of the sacrifice his own god demands.

Combine that idolatry with a political culture steeped in fear and hate, and violence ceases to be accidental.

It becomes inevitable.

“Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword” (Matthew 26:52).

My simple prayer, “May peaceful heads prevail, in the example of Christ.”
